Wales is not a large country but it packs an extraordinary amount of interest into its small area; there are mountain ranges, a spectacular coastline, remote uplands, and historic towns and cities. A network of youth hostels covers the country and the purpose of this website is to provide readers with information about the hostels and the possibilities for recreation, particularly walking, in the surrounding area.

In 2006 Welsh Hosteller enters its sixth year. It began back in January 2001 with an article about Snowdon Ranger Youth Hostel and in the first year a new article was published every month on a different hostel. The pace slackened in subsequent years to a new hostel every two months and by January 2006 the total number of hostels covered had reached 31.
